Ever since our inception we’ve been dedicated to operating our business in an environmentally friendly manner through several methods. The biggest contribution comes from our efforts on extending the lifecycle of our I.T. products by refurbishing them and responsibly disposing of old I.T. hardware as part of our Asset Recovery Services.
We also run internal campaigns to promote our office recycling guidelines and we even coordinate and get our staff enrolled in a car pooling program, SmartCommute.
Our Commitment for a Greener Future
On average every month we have:
- Protected 76 trees
- Saved 19,552 KWh of energy
- Prevented 8,172 liters of oil from being used
- Saved 17 cubic meters of landfill space
- Stopped 120 KGs of air pollutants from being released
- Saved 118,181 liters of water
- Maintained a 94% diversion rate
Our monthly and quarterly audits help us measure the total amount of solid waste generated by our business operations which allows us to create and adjust our waste reduction strategy. This strategy includes an internal office recycling program where objects such as paper, beverage containers, batteries and printer cartridges are disposed of properly as well as retrofitting our fleet to decrease greenhouse gases and energy usage.
We also participate in the SmartCommute car pool program which gives preferential parking and many other perks to employees that car pool.
All of these green initiatives are backed by two key certifications: R2 (Responsible Recycling) and ISO 14001:2004(Environmental Management).
The R2 certification ensures that we adhere to strict internal controls so that our dispositions are performed in complete compliance with all current local, state, provincial and federal standards. Equipment that comes to us is triaged into re-marketable and non-salable materials. The non-salable plastics and metals are recycled through fully audited recycling and processing facilities approved by the US, EPA and Canada's Ministry of the Environment. Processing takes place in secure facilities that are certified and audited under ISO14001:2004 and R2 standards ensuring no electronic waste will be sent to landfills or developing countries.
ISO 14001:2004 Certified
Being ISO 14001:2004 Certified allows us to reduce the environmental impact of every process we use to recertify our equipment. Recertified equipment is, by definition, the most environmentally conscious way to provide computers for organizations. Recertifying a computer uses a tiny fraction of the resources it would take to manufacture a new one, and those resources used are clean and involve little material expenditure in contrast with the dozens of toxic chemicals needed to manufacture a new system.
Zero Landfill Day
There are 400-500 million obsolete, unused computers in North America that are waiting to be disposed of. With dangerous chemical compounds that are used in computers such as lead, mercury, barium and hexavalent chromium which, if not disposed of properly, can cause severe brain, kidney, and DNA damage, it is critical that these electronics are disposed of properly.
Because of this we ran a zero landfill day with RISTE (the Rhode Island Society of Technology Educators). Participants could come in and drop off their unused electronics at one of our many locations so, we could dispose of them in an environmentally friendly manner. This past event like our many other current green initiatives is an example of how dedicated we are to helping schools, organizations and individuals recycle their old electronics goods.
Our Zero Landfill Day ended up being a huge success saving over 13,000 lbs of electronic waste from going into landfills and more importantly informing countless people of the dangers of carelessly throwing out old electronic devices.
Environmentally Friendly Packaging
We’ve worked with our partners in the packaging industry to manufacture all our packaging from Environmentally Friendly materials that are certified and Forestry Compliant. CDI ships our product in packaging made of 94-100% post-consumer recycled goods. We also ensure all shipping materials are 100% recyclable and are accepted by all municipalities for their recycling programs.
