Sisters Academy’s wireless network was ‘broken’. The iPads which the students used were unable to communicate with the network. The lack of an enterprise-class Wi-Fi solution posed several challenges including poor and inconsistent device management. There was a critical need for a future-proof wireless infrastructure to scale out a mobility initiative and standardize an affordable solution leveraging cutting-edge wireless technologies.
What added to this challenge were the lack of adequate documentation on the existing wireless access points, the switching of the IT Support Coordinator, and scarcity of IT budget.
Faced with these requirements, Timothy Cahill, the Technology Coordinator at Sisters Academy, began his search for a robust Wi-Fi solution.
The CDI Account Manager for Sisters Academy played an important role in guiding the school in the right direction. According to Timothy, he didn’t have a lot of experience in selecting an enterprise wireless system. The Technical Specialist at CDI helped him make the right decision in choosing a system to fit the school’s environment.
A full Ruckus wireless solution with a Cisco wired backbone was deployed at Sisters Academy. The rollout included a Ruckus 1200 series controller licensed for up to 7 Access Points. The R500 802.11ac 2×2 MIMO Dual-band access points covered by Manufacturer Warranty were installed. A Cisco 3560G 24 Port Gigabit POE Layer 3 switch was also provided. With the solid technical support from the CDI, the entire rollout took 6 hours and was carried out on a Saturday.
The transformation of the wireless network was remarkable. CDI’s implementation of Ruckus offered a comprehensive, cost effective, flexible wireless solution to Sisters Academy. The Technology Coordinator now had the ability to centrally manage the network even when offsite. The students were able to access the hi-speed internet simultaneously. The iPad synchs and updates functioned above the expected levels. The number of trouble tickets reduced drastically resulting in an operational milestone.
The teachers and the students were able to enjoy a collaborative learning environment now backed by a solid wireless infrastructure.
Satisfied from their experience with the CDI, the school looks forward to working with the company again when they move to a Windows 2012 environment with Dell PowerEdge Servers.
